Myanmar Earth Quake

YANGON: More than 60 people were killed and 90 injured after a strong earthquake struck Myanmar near its border with Thailand, an official said Friday.

Tremors were felt as far away as Bangkok, almost 800 kilometres (500 miles) from the epicentre, Hanoi and parts of China during the earthquake on Thursday, which the US Geological Survey (USGS) measured at m
agnitude 6.8.

In Chiang Rai, Thailand, Hong Khamping, 55, died when a concrete wall in her home collapsed on top of her. The wall was poorly constructed, Thai officials said.

"Roads are closed. According to the information that we have, more than 130 buildings collapsed because of the quake. There might be more casualties and damage," a Myanmar official said.
